Sometimes all it takes is one person with an idea.

Perhaps there is a neglected patch of land near you that could become a community garden. Maybe an unloved alleyway could be transformed with planters and flowers, or your neighbourhood has a space that could be brought back into community use.

Helping ideas to grow

For 15 years, Heywood in Bloom has worked with residents, community groups, businesses, charities and the Council to improve green spaces across our town.

We have learned a great deal along the way.

While we cannot promise to fund or take responsibility for new projects, we may be able to help you understand what is involved, offer practical advice, share our gardening experience and put you in touch with organisations that could help.

We can also help you think about issues such as permission to use the land, choosing suitable plants, sustainability, involving your neighbours and developing your idea into a project that can grow over time.

It doesn't have to be a big project

Some of the best community projects start small.

A few planters, a forgotten corner, a small garden or an alleyway can make a real difference when local people come together to care for it.

You don't need to have everything worked out before contacting us. At this stage, an idea is enough.

Your project, supported by experience

Our aim isn't to take over your project. We want to help local people and organisations develop spaces that belong to their own communities.

And, as your project develops, there may be opportunities to become part of the wider Heywood in Bloom network and participate in North West in Bloom's It's Your Neighbourhood programme.
