Losing the BT Gardens
Heywood in Bloom have looked after the BT garden site for 10 years and this year we had plans to develop it further. Prior to starting we did the right thing and contacted BT who own the site to ensure they were happy with our plans. Sadly this has had completely the opposite result and their response to us is below ‘Unfortunately, due to the size of its operational estate (with c.5,500 exchanges) BT is unable to consider requests by third parties to carry out activities such

Preparing the Allotment
It’s been a busy few weeks on the community allotment for our volunteers and the Link-Ability green team. They have started vegetable and flower seeds in the greenhouse and have taken some seeds home to tend and grow on their windowsills. Work has also started on clearing the beds for planting later and cutting back the wild areas ready for fresh growth. It’s heartwarming to see so many people actively involved in the allotment. Another active year ahead
We had our first committee meeting of 2026 last night. It was good to welcome our new 3 committee members, they will be valuable assets to us. Winter Planting
The judging may be over, the awards have been made but your HIB team are still working hard to ensure we will have some beautiful flowers to enjoy around the town early next year. Over the last week we have planted 1500 mixed bulbs. Some have gone into the saddle back planters at the library and the church along with some winter bedding plants. Compost Pens for the Allotment
A busy and fun filled day at the allotment today when 3 Linkability service users, Caroline, Cath and Hannah with Rebecca their support worker and John their horticulture ambassador spent the day building new compost pens, generally tidying up, emptying the saddle back planter inserts and replanting them with some winter bedding.
